Stop Neglecting Your Neck and Décolleté

The skin on the neck and chest is an extension of the face, so caring for this area as much as you care for your face is very important. After all, who wants to have youthful, smooth skin on their face and have their neck give them away? 😊

We believe that most of you are already smoothing over products from your face to your neck—and while the intention is good, this doesn’t really help in the quest for youthful, smooth, hydrated skin on the neck. These areas have thinner skin and fewer oil glands, which means they need more focused care—not leftovers.

This is also true with sunscreen. Sunscreen is one of the most effective anti-aging skincare products we have, since sun exposure is the leading cause of premature skin aging. That’s why we always encourage clients to treat sunscreen like a daily non-negotiable. A quick swipe down the neck won’t cut it—a small, rushed application leaves this delicate area unprotected.

Why is it important to include the neck and décolleté in your skincare routine?

Just like the face, the neck and chest need their own attention. For proper coverage, we recommend applying about ¼ teaspoon of sunscreen to the face—and the same amount again for the neck and décolleté. If you're wearing a V-neck or something lower-cut, make sure to cover any additional exposed skin. A proper neck moisturizer with UV protection is key to minimizing damage in this area.

First areas to show signs of aging

The neck and décolleté also have a different structural makeup than the face. They contain less supportive fat and fewer collagen fibers, which means they’re more prone to sagging and wrinkling over time. You’ve probably heard the term “tech-neck.” Daily movements—like looking down at your phone—can create repeated creasing that eventually becomes permanent.

This, combined with sun exposure and thinner skin, makes targeted care like firming cream or anti-aging neck treatment essential if you want to maintain a smooth, lifted look in these often-neglected areas.

How to incorporate skincare for the neck and décolleté

At night is when the skin repairs itself, which makes it the perfect time to reach for targeted anti-aging neck treatments. Neck Perfect from iS Clinical is one that we recommend to our clients. It’s loaded with active ingredients like rice protein to improve firmness, Centella Asiatica to support collagen production, and salicylic acid to smooth and refine texture—making it an effective option for treating the delicate skin on the neck and décolleté.

In addition, retinol is a powerful ingredient found in high-performance products. We recommend that our clients use Retinol Emulsion+ on the neck and chest at night about two to three times a week. However, this is just a suggested schedule. You should always listen to your skin and adjust the frequency to what suits you best.

Make iIntroduce retinol gradually into your routine, as the neck skin is thinner and more sensitive. It has the ability to dramatically smooth the skin’s texture with continued use.

If you already have a lot of visible damage or want to make sure that you avoid further damage, there are several treatments you can do at home and professionally:

1. Use an at-Home Chemical Peel

Regular exfoliation can greatly improve the appearance of sun damage by removing rough, pigmented cells and boosting cellular turnover. It smooths the skin and, over time, helps fade discoloration. You can use a product like the Tri Bio-Botanical Revival Masque once or twice a week.

It combines lactic, mandelic, and asiatic acids to stimulate collagen production and accelerate cell turnover, helping to repair UV-induced damage on the neck and décolleté. This targeted exfoliation reduces pigmentation, improves skin texture, and supports regeneration in areas prone to sun exposure and thinning.

2. Use Retinol

Retinol is one of the most well-researched ingredients in anti-aging skincare. We love working with retinol and vitamin A, and we recommend Retinol Emulsion+ to our clients. When used regularly, it can improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin. Retinol can make the skin photosensitive, which is why it’s very important to be diligent with applying SPF during the day.

3. Use an Antioxidant Serum

Without a doubt, antioxidants like vitamin C can improve the look of discoloration and create a more even-toned complexion. Vitamin C not only helps suppress melanin activity but can also prevent redness by strengthening capillary walls. It even helps rebuild collagen, which is essential when caring for sun-damaged skin.

We recommend using a high-quality vitamin C neck serum like Super Serum or GeneXC Serum from iS Clinical every morning and applying it to the face, neck, and chest before sunscreen.

4. Use Neck Cream

If you’re using a neck cream, you’re providing your skin with much-needed moisture and skin firming ingredients that can improve the appearance of the thin, damage-prone skin on the neck and décolleté region. We have our clients use Neck Perfect every night (and yes, we recommend applying it to both your neck and chest!).

It’s formulated with salicylic acid to smooth texture and clarify the skin, hydrolyzed quinoa and rice proteins to enhance firmness and elasticity, and Centella Asiatica to support collagen production and repair sun damage—making it an effective neck and chest cream for this delicate area.

5. Wear Sunscreen Every Day

We know we sound like a broken record when it comes to sunscreen, but it bears repeating. No matter how much sun damage you’ve already experienced, it’s never too late to protect yourself from more. In fact, it’s far easier and less expensive to prevent damage than to correct it.

Apply a generous amount of sunscreen to your face, neck, and chest every day. And don’t just apply to your face and drag down the leftovers—give the neck and décolleté their own full application with a high-quality neck moisturizer that includes UV protection.

6. Eat Your Antioxidants

Along with topical antioxidants, we also recommend eating antioxidant-rich foods like berries, avocado, spinach, broccoli, and red bell pepper. These foods nourish your body from the inside out and help slow down visible signs of aging.
